One of the most popular peer-2-peer services, SuprNova.org, has shutdown their operations because of pressure from the Motion Picture Association of America. The site was a host for bit torrent links, one of the leading methods of P2P.
Users would click a link and would, by means of the Bit Torrent client, download the desired file. According The Inquirer, SuprNova's site, which was not available earlier, featured a message informing visitors of the changes. "SuprNova is closing down for good in the way that we all know it. We do not know if SuprNova is going to return, but it is certainly not going to be hosting any more torrent links. We are very sorry for this, but there was no other way, we have tried everything."
An academic study determined that bit torrent use was responsible for over 50% of P2P traffic.
